In order to intensify the mutual cooperation of the Sino-German Working Group on Product Safety in the automotive industry, an economically important sector for both countries, AQSIQ suggested in summer 2014 to establish a dedicated Sub-Working Group (SWG) on Product Safety in the Automotive Industry. This was formally agreed upon at the fourth annual meeting of the WG on Product Safety in June of the same year. The SWG provides a long-term dialogue platform for the active participation of the German and Chinese automotive industry in the WG on Product Safety.
At the kick-off meeting of the SWG in September 2014, initial technical priorities for the exchange within the SWG were coordinated. Those are to be implemented in the following four project lines:
- Exchange regarding safety-related aspects of technical product innovations
- Exchange on risk management and recall processes
- Dialogue on technical harmonisation in certification and homologation
- Exchange on import and export inspections of vehicles and components
By implementing these four project lines, the SWG on Product Safety in the Automotive Industry pursues the common interests of the Chinese and German governments. The bilateral dialogue enables the exchange of knowledge and experience on technical product requirements in the automotive sector, on market access conditions for the Chinese market and on the development of quality infrastructure and harmonization of technical standards.
The political dialogue is enriched by perspectives and expertise from the automotive industry. The long-term dialogue platform allows associations and companies from both countries to integrate industry needs in the political dialogue. That way, new priorities of cooperation can be actively co-developed and implemented.
